CLUB NIGHTS 2008
Activities at our Briars Hall HQ
on the 3rd Thursday of the month
MAY 2008 - SCALEXTRIC NIGHT
It was beautiful early summers evening and this tempted  a good turn out of MGs to be seen on the car park . In fact most club members spent plenty of time enjoying the late evening sunshine until the racing started . Ray even had some time to have a go at getting Noel's GT to run a bit better.
This was our 3rd Scalextric race night set up by Paul and Peter and using Jamie's race cars. Once again there were 32 spaces for competitors with everyone having a practice heat first and then an elimination round, to go into  a semi final and then the final 4 were left. It was an even split between the ladies and gents with Charmione Woolam and Margaret Pagett proving that a steady race with no crashes was a good plan. Darren Christian  and Andrew Dickenson went for the all or nothing strategy which eventually proved the right one, with Andrew as runner up and Darren showing that his motorbike leathers were not restricting his movements! Thanks to the voluntary contributions of the competitors we raised £27 for out charity - Derian House Children's Hospice.

The final heat with Jamie and Nigel accompanied by Rob Dogherty's son LucasRay decides he needed a helmet for the semi final - Dave Staniforth laughs as he realises that his head was too big!Audi models line up for the start of another heat - fortunately they all survived the ordeal.Paul finally gets to play - but not in the competition - Jamie and Julie joined him for a laugh. The final - males versus females - with Darren and Andrew competing against Charmione and Margaret. Despite Shirley's encouraging efforts the lads won with Andrew runner up to Darren (it was definitely the leathers that helped! )
ANNUAL PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP COMPETITION
THURSDAY 17TH JULY 2008
After a very wet and windy morning, the skies cleared to give a dry evening at Briars Hall for our club night competition.
A large turnout of 22 cars was the largest for some years, with the biggest increase being in the modern class with 11 cars up for judging.

Runner Up - Alison Dickenson - MGB GT

Standard Class - Winner - Richard Sherman - MG TD
Runner Up - Ray Travies - MGB
Modern Class - Winner - Robert Collier - MG RV8
Runner up - Dave Masheder - MGF

CLUB NIGHT - OCTOBER 16TH 2008
AUCTION OF CLUB MEMBERS' GARAGE CLEAR OUT BITS

15 club members contributed over 45 items for auction from their garages. Noel acted as auctioneer once again with Nigel as his assistant and most of the items were sold with over £200 being raised for Derian House. Bargain of the evening was for 5 midget wheels and tyres bought for just £1 by  Andrew Dickenson - who also took the photos . Biggest spenders of the evening where Alan Grindley and Darren Christian. Thanks to all those who contributed items and to those who spent their money.
