MID MONTH MEETINGS 2011
Held on the first Thursday of the month
THURSDAY 7TH APRIL
THE STANLEY GATE INN - BICKERSTAFFE
Early arrivals in the car parkIt stayed light until 8-15 pmQuite a few stayed in the car park all evening.
Our first mid month meeting of the year was a beautiful evening . By 8-15 pm as the sun was setting , there were 18 club cars in the car park with a couple of other club members in their everyday cars. It was a clear warm evening for April and quite a few stayed in the car park having a drink and discussing the cars whilst others made their way inside for the warmth of the pub.
Thursday May 5th - 7.30 p.m.
Our May  mid month meeting was to the Derby Arms on Prescot Road, Aughton. This is about 2 miles south of Ormskirk. Unfortunately the good weather of April broke to give a showery evening, with only 4 MGs turning out. We did have 16 club members to enjoy the sandwiches in the pub though.
Mid month 2010
Manageress of the Derby Arms and her son look at Ralph's TC - the proud owner showed them round. Ralph's TC was joined by Dave's ZT and Jerry's MGBBill's GT in the foregroundDespite the showers - we stayed on the car park to chat for a while.
THURSDAY 2ND JUNE
Our June mid month meet was at  the SOUTHPORT LIFEBOAT  HOUSE  on the promenade - around 30 members turned out , so there were 15 MGs lined up in the fairground car park plus 5 ordinary cars next to the station.  The photos below show our tour of the lifeboat station as we all crowded into the home of the lifeboat. Afterwards  we then  transferred to the nearby Fisherman's Rest pub - which is where the victims of the the 1886 Lifeboat disaster were taken to be laid out.
Cars lined up outside The walls of the station were lined with framed photos of the history of the Southport LifeboatGoing up the stairs to the control roomDemonstration of how the dry suits are wornRay looks suitably impressed!Outside we inspected the recent addition of the £145,000 lifeboatThe proximity to the fairground can be seen in this shot. The two massive 150 hp Mercury outboard engines give the lifeboat a top speed of around 40 knots. There are 2 quad bikes for rescues off the mud flats.Everyone gathered to see the small Inshore rescue boat - this is used as a back up .Ray travies's V8 drew some attention. Lined up for the off - next stop The Fisherman's Rest.Gathered on the patio of the "Fisherman's"
Thursday July 7th - The Ship Inn  ( Blood Tub)

Graham and Richard outside the pub - a strange woman insisted on being in the photo!!The cra Park was quite full when we arrived - testimony to the new managementAt first there was some late evening sunshine- and it stayed with us for around 1/2 an hour - long enough to have a chat in the car park--and look at each others cars..but then the rain arrived and only the hardy ones stayed outside.

THURSDAY 4TH AUGUST - 7.30 p.m.
THE BOWLING GREEN INN - CHARNOCK RICHARD
There was a good gathering of MGs for our second visit to this excellent pub - ( as long as you didn't mind waiting 10 minutes to get served!!). David Bryant turned out for his last ever West Lancs event before moving "down south" - we all gathered round for our final farewell photo - see below.

We parked our cars in the overflow car parkSome of the club members gathered near the entrance to make the most of the sunshine. The car park gradually filled upThen we all gathered around to say a Farewell to David Bryant on his last club meeting.

THURSDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
HESKETH ARMS - RUFFORD

This is on the main A59 road right in the middle of the village and it was 5 years since we last visited here. By 8 pm we had around 12 MGs parked up in the Hesketh car park. The weather was perfect and it allowed us to stay outside chatting in the balmy evening air.
A good line up of MGs with only a range Rover getting in the way........and the same setting from the other side. The pub seen from the vantage point of Andrew's and Ron's GTs. Eric's and Peter's MGBs alongside Ralph's TCEnjoying the balmy September evening..........plenty of time to enjoy the fresh air ........Jerry sees that his old MGB has arrived ...........with its new owner Alan Lethridge.

THE ANNUAL BLACKPOOL ILLUMINATIONS RUN
THURSDAY 13TH OCTOBER
(This was  re-arranged  due to horrendous weather on the 6th!!)
Nine MGs met up in Tarleton at 7pm for the drive to Blackpool . The weather was perfect for a top down drive - relatively warm with only a light wind. We managed to stay mostly in convoy all the way to the start point outside the Norbreck Castle Hotel - at the North end of Blackpool promenade. After a short "breather" we set off through the lights at 8.30pm. At first we thought that there was a long slow moving queue , but after about half a mile , we realised that there was just a large coach travelling at about 10 mph - but at least this gave us all a chance for a good view. By 9.30pm we had arrived at the south end of the promenade and parked up outside the Squires Gate chippy - an advance phone call had ensured that the chips were just about ready for us. Most of us opted to eat our  supper outside - fish & chips  do seem taste better that way - but several members decided to be more civilised and take advantage of the seating area inside. After an excellent supper we all set off for home via Lytham St.Annes. Another brilliant Blackpool run -why not  join us next year!.

ANNUAL BOWLING COMPETITION
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4TH - 7.30 PM
AT SOUTHPORT PLAZA BOWL

Two dozen club members and friends gathered at the Southport Bowling alley and enjoyed a good buffet meal before starting on the two games of bowls . In the first round Jamie was leading the scores, closely followed by Cam's son Scott, with Jamie eventually scoring 136 and Scott on 125. The second game then got under way and Cyril Vincent was now into his stride building up a good score with Peter Dobson on the next lane also looking good. Cyril managed an excellent finish to score 139 closely followed by Peter on 127. So the final scores showed that Cyril had held on to his crown for the 3rd year running with Jamie the runner up. Well done Cyril.
