CONGRATULATIONS TO THE AWARDS EVENING WINNERS - 2004
At the club meeting on Thursday 20th August the Dargan and Supporter's trophies were awarded.
DARGAN TROPHY - JAMES COVENTRY - Jamie has been the driving force behind our Classic Run and Show and despite his illness over the last 18months , Jamie has continued to plan our 5th show and has hardly missed an event this year - he is an inspiration to us all.
SUPPORTER'S SHIELD - ALAN GRINDLEY - Alan has worked hard for the club since joining 2 years ago - together with Marianne he has organised fund raising at our show and is always ready for a laugh and joke at our meetings and shows.
An excellent evening was had by all with 70 members and guests enjoying the hot pot supper provided by Briars Hall .
Nigel kept the evening moving with his impeccable master of ceremonies links and Ray made a fun evening with his quiz questions cleverly linked to fund raising - ( a penalty of £1 for every wrong answer). This novel idea raised £70 for our charity Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley.
Our guests, John and Charmione from Derian House were on hand to receive their cheque for £250 from the proceeds of our show last month. John and Charmione are virtually honorary members of the club with their help on the club BBQ at our September shows over the last couple of years. Mike and Glen Kite were also with us . Mike was our secretary for 4 years from 1990 to 1994.
Thanks to Andrew Dickenson for taking the photos below .

Ray commandeered the Rotary Club bell to keep order in the quiz.( It appears to have been lubricated by American beer in this photo!!)
Former secretary Mike Kite (1990-1994) with Glen Kite were our guests seen here with Nigel Malyan( left) and Cam (right).
A big part the evening was the presentation of money raised during our Classic Show and Run in September.

Ray raised £70 with his novelty penalty quiz during the evening. Ray (left) is seen here presenting John with,no - not the ashtray, but the cash in it.
Ace guitarist and club member Ian Pye,entertained us during the evening with his virtuoso performance.

Our special edition badge for the 25th Anniversary.
When I said at our 25th celebratory evening that they would worth a fortune on ebay - I was joking. Since then we decided to put one on ebay ourselves after one went for £58. The idea was to raise money for the tsunami appeal. It went for £62 - amazing. This will be added to the £62 raised by the raffle on AGM night
There are now only 10 remaining
for club members only

CLUB CHRISTMAS MEAL
THURSDAY DECEMBER 16TH - BRIARS HALL
Ray spent a lot of time organising our Christmas meal and on the night we had 54 members and friends enjoying the spread at our base at Briars Hall. Many thanks to Ray for his efforts. Lisa can be seen in the photos getting the raffle organised - thanks Lisa for her hard work but how come no one on our table won a prize!!. Nigel acted as MC for the evening and kept everyone entertained in his usual witty style . Nigel's Christmas quiz kept most of us puzzling over the clues (for example - what is a cat on the beach called? - Answer sandy claws. or the most complex one - what do you call chess players describing their winning moves in a hotel lobby - Answer - chess nuts boasting in an open foyer ! Well done to Ralph - the eventual winner. Thanks again to Ian for entertaining us with his wonderful guitar playing.
Hope you can recognise some one you know in the photos.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - THURSDAY 20TH JANUARY 2005
Our AGM held at our Briars Hall meeting place saw the election of two extra committee members. The increase in committee size reflects the increase in our club membership to over 70 . The committee will now consist of 9 members. The new committee members elected at the meeting were Alan Grindley and Noel Skinner . Congratulations to Alan and Noel, they will be an asset to the committee with their apparently boundless enthusiasm and energy. The existing committee were also returned in the election - thank you to the members for your vote of confidence.

VISIT TO AN 1850s WRECK ON AINSDALE BEACH
SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY 2005
One of our members - Martyn Griffiths, invited club members to trek across Ainsdale beach to see the wreck of an 1850s wooden hulled ship which had run aground towards the end of the 19th century. It is only exposed every 10 years or so. Several members of the club took him up on his offer and ventured out on to the sands. The wreck is about 400 metres off shore and the "window" between tides was about 3 hours.
Fortunately the weather was perfect for the walk across the sands.
Thanks to John Dickenson and Nigel Malyan for the photos.

OUR FIRST OVERSEAS MEMBER
Earlier this year we were selling one of our badges on ebay. It eventually went to an enthusiast in Switzerland for £62 which was donated to the Tsunami appeal. Rob Gast from Pittsburgh in USA tried to win the badge in the auction but was pipped at the post in the last few seconds. He asked to join the club and obtain a badge the "legitimate" way. I am glad to say that we now have Rob as our first overseas member. Rob is seen top right in his 1958 MGA 1500 giving a couple of the neighbours' kids a ride (future MG enthusiasts?).
Rob is also into boatbuilding and has spent several years building one in his back yard - photo bottom right. Rob hopes he can get over to the UK to visit us in the near future.

PLANS TO DESTROY AINTREE GP CIRCUIT
I have just heard from Dave Milnes , one of our members, that there are plans to build a new stand at Aintree Race course. Nothing wrong with that you might think - after all Aintree hosts the Grand National -the most famous horse race in Britain . But the plan is to build it across the the famous Grand Prix track. Our club had a stand at the Aintree Festival of Motor Sport last November and several of us had the privilege of driving round several laps of the old GP circuit - and the organisers had planned to make this an annual event . If the plans go ahead for the new stand then a piece of motoring history will have been destroyed forever - absolute vandalism! I am looking into getting a petition together to try to get the plans amended so as to preserve the circuit .
CLUB MEETING - APRIL 21ST 2005
THE CLUB MEETING THIS MONTH ENJOYED SOME SPRING EVENING SUNSHINE AND IT TEMPTED SEVERAL MEMBERS TO BRING THEIR CARS OUT OF HIBERNATION.

As the sun went down everyone went inside and enjoyed Jamie's quiz - congratulations to Nigel Malyan's team for just pipping Bill Jump's team and picking up the bottles of wine.
TOOLS AUCTION AT THE CLUB NIGHT - MAY 19TH MAY 2005
The fine evening brought quite a few MGs out of their garages for the May meeting - even though we did have a shower of rain later on.
Club member John Dickenson went to a great deal of trouble in bringing an extensive range of new tools for car restoration and maintainence for auction. Over 40 members were tempted indoors to make their bids. Our resident auctioneer , Noel, kept things in lively motion as most of the tools reached their reserve price. This meant that quite a few members got some excellent quality equipment at bargain prices ( especially Jamie and Darren). This was a really great idea and I'm sure we will be repeating it later in the year- many thanks John.
All profits will go to our charity fund.

Several members and their cars turned out to help with this charity event . Putting classic cars in a parade at walking pace is not always a good idea and true to form several had to pull over with overheating engines. ( photos - Andrew Dickenson)
Norwood School Fete.
Only Noel, John and Eddie with his Yankie cars turned out to help Norwood Primary school on their summer fete. Andrew took the photos and said that the kids and their footballs were kept well away from the cars this year.
CLUB NIGHT - JUNE 16TH - TREASURE HUNT
Our annual treasure hunt was set this year by Peter Dobson amd David Bryant who were last year's winners. About a dozen cars set of on the 15 mile route. Ray with Jamie and Stan with Carly were the last to set off just as it was getting towards dusk. On the outskirts of Rufford they came across an accident which had only just happened and had blocked the road. They had to abandon their outing and head back - otherwise I am sure one of them would be setting next year's run. That honour goes to Eddie and Dave who scored the most points this year with John, Alison and Andrew a close second. Well done and thanks to Peter and David.

PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP - THURSDAY 16TH JULY
Our annual self-judging competition was held as usual in the car park at our HQ at Briars Hall, Lathom .
Unfortunately we weren't blessed with the usual sunny summer evening.
In fact it poured down all evening and we were considering calling it off. We had such a good turn out of members all arriving in their beloved MGs despite the weather that we decided after a vote to carry on regardless. So it was out into the rain with umbrellas and mark sheets -(becoming more and more soggy) to score the cars in the 3 sections - Premier class, Standard class and Modern Class .

SCALEXTRIC COMPETITION - CLUB NIGHT - SEPTEMBER 17TH 2009
32 club members took part in the scalextric competition ( and raised £32 for Derian House too).
The final was contested between Andrew Dickenson, Dave Maguire, Nigel Malyan and Michael Staniforth.
Eventual winner was Michael Staniforth - which goes to show that youthful speed of reactions counts in the end - well done Michael ( hope dad Andrew enjoyed the champagne).
30th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND AWARDS EVENING
THURSDAY 0CTOBER 15th
A fantastic evening at Briars Hall to celebrate the club's 30th anniversary with a special birthday cake too. There were 60 club members and guests present to enjoy the awards and hot pot supper followed by entertainment from magician Rick Tynan. There was also a presentation of a cheque for £3800 to Derian House , money raised by Ray Trivass and Nigel Malyan from their Barcelona Bangers trip earlier this year.
The awards were given to the Pride of Ownership winners and also to :-
Club supporters of the year - Stuart and Louise Rogers
